Trust Me

Jesus is cool. Obviously there are myriad reasons why, (understatement?) but here’s a theme for your day. On the one hand, He’s unbelievably demanding: Telling a rich guy to sell everything, instructing us that to follow Him you have to be willing to leave your own family--heck hate your family and your own life,--telling us we’ll have trouble, persecution, and more.

Yet, he also says, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.” And, “My yoke is easy and burden is light.”

How does this play out in Sudan? With Jason Morris, to name one of many. Let me tell you a quick story.

Jason, pictured above, talked with a 16-year old young man in Sudan. Jason told him his own story, then he told him stories from the Bible about how angels (spirits) were created, about Adam and Eve, the Garden of Eden, and how Adam bombed out, introducing sin into the world. Then Jason told him the Good News of Jesus. How he came fix all this and reconcile the world to Himself.

The young man wanted to follow this Jesus. Jason then asked him if there was anyone else who might want to hear these stories. The young guy thought for a bit then asked two young boys to take Jason to another village. Once there, they met an older man. The older man indicated he wanted to hear these stories and told Jason to wait under a tree.

For the next half hour people came and sat under the tree. Here’s what Jason says happened next, “They sat in a large semi-circle with two of the elders and the chief sitting in front. We shared the stories with them and answered questions for about two hours. After we had finished the elder stood up and said that he was full of joy, that they all were because of the stories we had shared. He told us that they had always known that there is a God because of the created world around them. He told us that he had never known of God’s love for them and the sacrifice of His Son Jesus (WOW). His speech floored me.”

See, Jesus comes through again. Wasn’t that supposed to be so hard? Jason’s obedience puts him in the tukel (home) of a local chief and an entire area comes to profess faith in Christ. A new church was born under that tree.
