Holly in Sudan

Holly Lungren, a Dallas Theological Seminary student, is spending her summer in Sudan as well. She’s doing a bunch of stuff, but I want to focus on her starting small discipleship groups with young ladies. Here’s Holly’s latest report.

Greetings friends from Kajo Keji Sudan!

Much has occurred since my last update and God has been so faithful to answer the prayers of His saints.  First news to report is that I have started a young women’s discipleship group that meets MWF mornings.  We are going through the 7 Basic Commands of Jesus, studying how Jesus’ teaches should transform our lives as believers.  The hope is that the women of this group will not only be encouraged by our study of the Word, but will take this teaching and start women’s groups all over Kajo Keji County!  Pray for our group that the women would grow into multiplying disciples and that these last two weeks I have with them will be fruitful!

Also, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturdays, I have been traveling to various churches in the area, teaching the local women’s groups.  I have been challenging them that in the dark times of life to 1.Remember who their God is, and 2. Remember who they are as daughters of the King.  It is a lesson I have been learning myself.  The response has been overwhelming; one lady at the last church stood up and said she believed that God was speaking directly to her, encouraging her to trust Him more.  She said that her life was changed and she had new hope.  Praise God!!!

The Recovery group is going well.  We still meet every day at 3:00pm and many still faithfully come. We finally decided on a name, RAPHA, which means Healing in Hebrew.  The group loved the new name and have written it all over their notebooks and even have a handshake that ends with a fist pound, “Rapha!” smile Please pray for the some 25+ people who have surrendered their lives to the Lord this summer at Rapha and that the Lord would continue to give them strength to resist alcohol and trust the Lord.

Finally on a personal note, last week I got very, very sick.  I was in bed for three days, weak, with lots of GI and stomach issues.  On the third day I could not keep any water or anything down and the team decided to get me to a hospital.  The nearest doctor is 45 minutes away, across the border in Uganda.  But we made it, saw the doctor and well, I got my first IVs ever in Africa!  Come to find out, I was majorly dehydrated and had a bacterial infection.  But as soon as the IV was going I felt so much better and was 100% again several days later.  Those days of being sick were really really hard, but the Lord had something to teach me.  Truly I believe that it was because of that hard time that I can relate to the Sudanese women a little better.

So friends, thank you so much for your prayers.  Even though you didn’t know I was sick, God knew and answered our prayers.  It is crazy to me that I only have 15 days until I leave this place!  Please pray with me that God would give me strength to finish well, wisdom as I teach His Word every day, and that He would be glorified here in Southern Sudan.  Tenate perek (Thank you so much!)

LOVE YOU GUYS!
