Well, adjusting to life here has been easier than I expected. After one week, I have become accustomed to using a latrine with a local cockroach audience and showering with a flashlight as my only light. The Kaya family is so hospitable and warm and have gone out of their way to make the Americans staying with them feel comfortable and welcomed. The bathroom and shower are what I would call a combination of Western and African accommodations. We also have internet access and electricity at night from a generator. So, I�m very grateful for the conveniences we have been blessed with. Emily and I are getting along great and everyday it seems that God reveals another reason why he has put us together on this journey. Stephen, an intern that is conducting well digging in Southern Sudan for 2 years, is also staying on the compound. He�s a laid-back guy and super easy to get along with. David and Gloria Kaya, the local pastor and his wife, have 5 children and I have fallen in love with all of them! They go back to boarding school in September and it�s definitely going to be a little boring around the compound when they leave.

For the women�s ministry, Emily and I have been working closely with Rose, a schoolteacher and wife of a local pastor. I have so much respect for her and I am honored to be able to serve her in the coming months. She has prepared the way for us to come and done so much work ahead of us. She prepared a schedule for the three of us to visit ten surrounding churches before the women�s conference in 3 weeks. We will do basic health education and discipleship. We will also assess the women�s needs in more detail so we can plan more in-depth teaching for the conference and the subsequent weeks. We hope to return to all 10 churches following the conference. We visited the first church, Mondikolok, on Friday. It took about 45 minutes to get there on motorbike, which was a ton of fun. I also was given an African name, which was Kiden (Kee-den). So that was pretty cool. Rose and the women seemed pleased and grateful with what we taught. So, it was a successful beginning to the work leading up to the conference. Praise God for that!I was humbled by how open the women were in sharing their personal problems and also surprised at how they openly discussed personal heath matters. It�s a little overwhelming when trying to assess the needs of the local women because they are so expansive and dire. But we have to remember that we can only take it one step at a time and that God will provide at each step we take.

Thank you all for your prayers, support, and receiving these updates. I�m hoping to send updates weekly to keep you all informed. Your support means so much to me. Don�t worry! I am very safe and being well taken care of by the pastor�s family. I don�t think I�ve ever felt more protected and cared for by the Lord since I have left to come here. He is already teaching me so much and preparing for the work He has ahead of me in this life. I�m so incredibly thankful for that. A few prayer requests before I go:

- Church visits before the conference: that our teaching will be helpful and communicated clearly

- Emily and I: that our friendship and working relationship will cont. to be strengthened and that we continue to integrate into the culture

- E3 Team coming in September: that they will be prepared to serve

- Women in Mondikolok: that their physical and spiritual needs will be met and that they will be encouraged and strengthened in their suffering
