Craziest Plants Yet

This trip had the craziest church plants I’ve ever encountered. The team planted three new churches and strengthened three other, existing, churches. Each of the three teams working with the new plants reported the same thing to me after their first day out: There was already a group of people meeting to “pray” at each site. They had pastors identified and one plant had elected “officers” of the church: Vice chairmen and a secretary to name two.

But here’s the twist. No one knew Jesus.

So imagine the first day out, each pastor prays to receive Christ?! There was major head scratching happening among the teams. Here’s what was going on: In each village the people had just enough knowledge to know they should worship God corporately. They also knew they needed a leader so they selected pastors to lead them to pray. They had been gathering weekly for three of four weeks to sing and pray. David Kaya and Edward Dima heard about them through Baba Wanni (pastor of a church planted in January).

It was the most low-hanging fruit ever to pick. People literally were asking for us to tell them how to follow Jesus! Now before you get too worried about pastors being brand-new Christians, we’ve assigned a Bible School student to the sites to disciple the people.

The photos are from the baptism on our last day. We baptized 110 people in this watering hole from all three sites. It was so beautiful to watch and just be a part of.

Tony and Jason
Last Monday, Tony Harvey was met with the perfect storm of low eating, heat, dehydration, spiritual warfare, and an energy drink. With all that combined, we had to airlift Tony out to Nairobi after a scary 12 hour period. (Thank you Lord for great travel insurance.) Jason Morris (e3 Staff) accompanied him. The docs in Nairobi gave Tony a clear bill of health, but both are still stuck in Nairobi. Please pray for their ordeal and for them to get home safely and comfortably.

More later ....

Mike
