Angela and Drunkard

When I take Americans to Sudan, those who skew younger are typically a bit skeptical about how we �do evangelism.� We see things through our context in the States. The idea of going home to home, door to door, is � unsettling. Isn�t that what the Mormons and Jehovah�s Witnesses do? They imagine someone coming to their home, and how they�d feel, think, and react.

Fortunately, it works a bit differently in Southern Sudan.

Angela worked in Pomoju. This was an area where an e3 team planted a church a year or so ago. She and Kasey worked in the area to strengthen the new(er) church plant. One day, as she was walking along a road, she and her translators came across a man. After sharing Christ, using the Evangecube, the man immediately said, �Yes, I want that. I want Christ. I think Angela was taken aback by his immediate response. Turns out, he was a known quantity in the area. A drunkard that a few folks in the church had been praying for and sharing with for some time. One man praying and sharing with him was a former drinking buddy. His heart had been hardened, until this past week. It was if he was waiting for another opportunity to respond to the Good News of Christ.

In the same area, Kasey watched the pastor run after two men. One was a member of the church who had backslidden. The other was his partner at drinking. It was late morning and they were off in search of moonshine. (Moonshine is my word. It�s fermented sorghum.) Isaac, the pastor, drug them along with Kasey for a visit at a home to share the gospel. After hearing her testimony and the Gospel, one rededicated his life, the other prayed to receive Christ.

In Litoba, Camp�s jaw dropped a bit as eight people around him in one home all prayed to receive Christ. And God used Mary in a village called Limi to lead a long-time church member to Christ. That was particularly poignant because Mary shared his testimony. She had sat in churches in America until she was 52 years old when she finally heard a clear presentation of the Gospel and came to know Jesus personally.

Thanks for your prayers and support. You guys are the best. Remember David this week too please. He�s working with Jerry Wofford in Torit, Sudan to establish a low-budget, indigenous-run pastor training school. The work continues to expand.
